With the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Patch 7.2, Seekers of Eternity, coming up on March 25, the current Series Pass for 7.1 is nearing its end. This series pass gives tons of trophy crystals which can be used to buy cosmetic equipment, including previous rewards from PvP. In addition, there’s an amazing-looking loose-fit attire, which takes the form urban streetwear that your character can show off.
To get this amazing outfit, you must get to level 25 of the Series Pass; this can be done by competing in all different types of PvP modes. Before jumping into PvP, though, if it’s your first time or it has been a while since you have played, I would recommend going to the Wolf’s Den. This location will swap your normal hotbar to the PvP hotbar. This will allow you to move around the skills to your choosing or, if it’s been a while, potentially delete older skills that have been removed.
Different Modes of PvP
Final Fantasy XIV features multiple different modes for PvP; these modes can give more series EXP depending on which one you play. For example, Crystaline Conflict gives the smallest amount of series EXP but is the fastest mode to play, while Frontlines/Frontlines roulette will give the most amount of series EXP as it takes longer to do. In addition, winning will give a bonus amount of EXP compared to losing, so it pays to do your very best. What follows below is a quick outline of each mode featured in the FFXIV PvP scene.
Crystalline Conflict
This mode is a simple team-based game in which you are trying to push the crystal from the middle of the area towards the enemies starting position. You have to be standing inside the circle to push the crystal; the enemy team, of course, will try to put a stop to this. This is probably one of my favourite PvP modes just there are less people in this mode then frontlines, and I find as a controller player harder to select targets when there are a ton to fight.
The mode also has several different maps, which also have environmental distractions which you have to avoid while tackling the standard mechanics. For example, Cloud Nine has tornadoes that will blow you up into the air; if you hit the ground, you take damage, but you can try to hit the gold feather to lower the damage taken. As a white mage, I love to sit and try to snipe enemy team members with my limit break if they have been sent flying.
Rival Wings
I will admit I have the least amount of knowledge on this mode compared to the rest, but there are several communities out there that help with popping this mode, and during certain time periods it does happen often. Rival Wings is a MOBA-style game with mechs, as you try to take the opponent’s base by destroying crystals on the way there with giant mechs. During this mode you must also venture off to collect fuel to power the mechs.
Frontline
Frontline is heaps of fun, and is based around three teams fighting to compete. Each team is fighting under the banner of a grand company, though in the past it was based on your company that you picked at the start; nowadays it will just throw you into any team. There are several different modes for Frontline; these include Seize, Shatter and Naadam. Each mode rotates based on the day and is locked off, so you are limited on what you are able to play.
There is also a duty roulette frontlines which will put you into a match; this gives a tons of EXP so if you are also trying to level up a job, this is a good way to do it. You can also queue up as the job you want to level, then switch to a different job inside Frontlines. This is good if you are playing a job you don’t feel comfortable with in PvP but also still want the EXP bonus for playing it.
Overall, you don’t have that much time left to get the series pass reward, and you need to be doing a lot of grinding if you’re going to be attempting it to 25 before next Monday. Square Enix has also announced that previous series rewards will be added to an NPC in the future, allowing you to purchase them, but of course we don’t know currently how often that NPC will be restocked with later pass stuff, so it could be a while before the current gear is added to it.
