Square Enix has revealed that it will release an update for Final Fantasy XVI in September to adjust the game’s Arcade Mode.
More specifically, the update will adjust the player evaluation in regards to how you perform in Arcade Mode battles, while a new leaderboard will also be added. There’s no further details available yet, although many people found Arcade Mode too easy, so this should up the difficulty nicely.
Final Fantasy XVI was released on June 22, 2023 for PS5, and sold three million copies during its launch week. However, there’s been a lot of talk whether or not the game has been a success or not, with Square Enix offering up some conflicting statements.
Originally, it responded to concerns about lacklustre sales by saying Final Fantasy XVI’s performance was relative to the PS5’s installed base, but later said that the game did not meet its high expectations due to the console’s slow adoption rate. Just this week, an analyst for Circana (aka NPD Group) said that the RPG had done fine in terms of sales.
Looking ahead, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida said last month that the team is ‘thinking about options‘ for potential DLC, although nothing has ben set in stone yet.
