EA Studios’ Executive Vice President, Patrick Soderlund, has confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront will receive plenty of free DLC going forward following the release of the Battle of Jakku in early December.
The free content will include new maps and Star Cards, although the publishing giant is keeping many of the details close to its chest at the moment. For now, you can read about its plans for Star Wars Battlefront below.
"Best of all, this is just the beginning. We have lots of new content coming over the next several months that will provide new ways to immerse yourself in Star Wars.
"In two weeks, The Battle of Jakku launches. Taking place 29 years before the events of Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™, The Battle of Jakku is a free DLC pack* that adds two new maps (including one for popular modes like Walker Assault and Supremacy) and a new mode to the game. The coolest thing is that it’s the only place you’ll be able to experience the pivotal events that help shape the look of one of the next iconic planets in the Star Wars universe. We can’t wait for you to step onto Jakku for the first time with us.
"Of course, we are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon."
Star Wars Battlefront is available now for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One platform, with stats from over last weekend revealing that the PS4 version of the game proved more popular than Xbox One and PC combined. The next major DLC for the sci-fi shooter will arrive in early 2016. Fans of the series will no doubt be pleased to know that EA plans on making more Battlefront/Star Wars games as a result of its deal with Disney.
Star Wars Battlefront eschews the single-player campaign seen in previous instalments of the popular franchise, and focuses on large-scale multiplayer battles. Gamers will find themselves taking on the role of a Rebel or Imperial trooper as they battle it out on a number of iconic locations throughout the Star Wars universe, such as Tatooine, Sullust, Endor, and Hoth. In addition, you can also take control of legendary ‘Hero and Villain’ characters from the series, including Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, and Han Solo.
