Insomniac Games, whose previous titles include the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series, has announced Song of the Deep, an underwater puzzle game that will be released on PC, Xbox One and Windows PC this Spring.
Insomniac has teamed up with videogame retailer Gamestop, who will publish their first ever title.
“We decided to join forces with this great creative development team and put the promotional and marketing arm of GameStop behind it,” said Mark Stanley, senior vice president of marketing and sales at GameStop.
Song of the Deep is a side-scrolling, underwater adventure and puzzle game featuring Merryn, the daughter of a fisherman. Merryn’s father has gone missing while out on his boat so she gets in her submarine and goes searching for him.
The submarine will be equipped with weapons and gadgets, such as a grappling claw, which Merryn will use to battle against the creatures of the deep and explore her surroundings.
"Throughout development we’ve tried to create moments of awe-inducing wonder," said Brian Hastings, chief creative officer at Insomniac Games, when revealing the studio’s new title. With Song of the Deep, Insomniac hopes to transport players to a world they’ve never been to, giving them "a sense of amazement and awe."
A firm release date hasn’t been confirmed, but Song of The Deep will launch on PS4 in Q2, 2016.
