Gears of War Reloaded Gears of War Reloaded PS5 Refused Japanese Release News PS5 The Coalition

Gears Of War Reloaded Is Not Launching On PS5 In Japan Due To ‘Platform Policies’

The PS5 version of Gears of War Reloaded is not going to see a release in Japan, Microsoft has announced. The game is still set to arrive in that region on PC and Xbox Series X/S, however.

The format holder revealed that the PS5 version is not happening due to “regional rating restrictions” and “platform policies.” In regards to the rating restrictions, this refers to CERO, the Japanese video games rating body, and presumably means that Gears of War Reloaded’s use of gore and violence was an issue, in particularly using chainsaws to hack off enemies’ limbs.

If that’s the case, why is the game still coming to other formats and not the PS5? Developers are able to make suggested cuts and apply for a re-rating from CERO if initially refused classification, or seek approval from the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC). Having said that, any game with 18+ content in Japan must pass CERO’s board to be sold on the PlayStation Store, which is most probably relates to the “platform policies” issue that Microsoft mentioned.

Gears of War Reloaded is due for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on August 26, 2025. Developer The Coalition announced that it will be hosting two Multiplayer Beta Weekends for Gears of War Reloaded this month, with the first kicking off on June 13.
