Geoff Keighley Confirms Security For The Game Awards 2023 Is Being Tightened To Avoid Potential Stage Invasions

Security for The Game Awards 2023 has been tightened to avoid any potential stage invaders, host Geoff Keighley has revealed during a Q&A livestream on Twitch.

The Game Awards 2022 was marred slightly by someone who managed to come onto the stage and grab the microphone after Elden Ring was awarded Game of the Year. Meanwhile, GamesCom Opening Night Live back in August saw a stage invader interrupt Keighley early in the show and mouthed off about ‘Bill Clinton wanting to play GTA 6.’

Asked if security would be tightened to avoid a repeat of the above, he replied:

Yeah, we are. We don’t want to talk about that stuff too publicly, just because it’s security. We definitely have plans and we’re trying to do all we can to keep me safe, but also everyone watching the show, the audience, people participating in the show and everything. It’s certainly something we’re thinking about. We appreciate the concern.

Believe me, that’s something that is top of mind for us, but we also want to put on a great show that celebrates these games, and celebrates our love of video games, so that’s an important thing to keep in mind as well. But yeah, I appreciate the concern around that.

Keighley revealed in the same Q&A that The Game Awards 2023 would be moving away from the World Premiere branding, which was heavily featured in past events.
