Jason Connell, Creative Director on Ghost of Yotei, has revealed during an interview with The New York Times that the upcoming sequel will feature a less repetitive open world setting.
One challenge that comes with making an open-world game is the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over again. We wanted to balance against that and find unique experiences.

Ghost Of Yotei was announced during Sony’s September State Of Play event and is confirmed to launch for PS5 in 2025. Speaking during the same interview, Connell revealed that Sucker Punch has at least one movie and other spinoffs in the pipeline for the franchise, with Ghost Of Tsushima now the first chapter in an ongoing series.
Former Sony boss Shawn Layden recently responded to an online troll who complained about Ghost of Yotei’s female protagonist, suggesting that if they don’t like it, then don’t buy the game.
