I also went to Hokkaido to research Ainu culture, and had people knowledgeable about Ainu culture introduce me to museums and folk crafts, which I incorporated into the worldview of this work. By the way, I also went to the mountains with them and had the experience of picking wild vegetables.

In terms of an open-world adventure, Ghost of Yotei has the greatest freedom and biggest map of any open-world game we have ever made.

Recently, ex-Sony indie boss Shuhei Yoshida stated that he’s played multiple in-development builds of Ghost of Yotei, and always came away impressed with what he experienced. Ghost of Yotei is slated for released on October 2, 2025 and will also feature a Collector’s Edition that includes a wealth of physical goodies, including a replica of Atsu’s Ghost Mask.

Ghost of Yotei is the follow-up to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, and takes place in Japan during the year 1603, some 329 years after the events of its predecessor. As mentioned, the game sees Atsu hunting down the masked Yotei Six, six individuals who murdered her family during her childhood, and adopts the persona of the Onryo to exact her revenge.
