Ghost of Yotei – Team Celebrates GTA VI Delay: “That Was a Great Day”

Sucker Punch’s co-creative director, Nate Fox, revealed to MinnMax that the team celebrated Rockstar’s delay of GTA VI to May 2026. Fox called it a “great day” and joked about a “multi-month hangover” from their celebration. Nothing gets a studio pouring drinks like a rival game postponing its release, so this means all the more when the game is GTA VI.

Originally set for late 2025, GTA VI’s postponement has given Sucker Punch a clear release window for their own game. Ghost of Yotei had been in the firing line of Rockstar’s colossal release, and the delay offered a much-needed reprieve.

In an industry where timing can make or break a launch, this is welcome news. As successful as Ghost of Yotei is surely going to be. Nobody wants to go toe to toe with Rockstar, and many other developers have their eyes on the release window of GTA VI. Watching so they can move their own game release to avoid it.

With Rockstar stepping back. Sucker Punch have a better chance to shine without competing with the monumental next entry in the GTA franchise. Fox’s comments show how much timing matters in gaming, and for fans, it’s a reminder that even lighthearted moments behind the scenes can shape release success.

Let’s hope the Sucker Punch guys recover from that hangover. They’ll no doubt have to celebrate another major success come October.

Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, launches on October 2, 2025, exclusively on PS5.
