Smoldering Ember can be found and gained when you complete missions and challenges specifically in Muspelheim.
God of War Smoldering Embers are also awarded after you are able to unlock Surtr's Hidden Trial. The amount depends on how high your rating is. If you are bronze, you will get 20. The silver rating will yield 30 while the gold one gives you 50 alongside other rewards.
