God of War: Ghost of Sparta unveiled

Sony has lifted the curtains on a brand spanking new chapter in the God of War series for PSP – God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

Due out later this year exclusively on Sony’s portable wonder, Ghost of Sparta once again signals the return of bald-headed hero Kratos, with the game serving as a prequel to the franchise, picking up after the events of the original God of War.

According a post on the EU PlayStation Blog, the game tells the “story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods — a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, he will once again have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes throughout his merciless quest.”

As you might have guessed, the project is being helmed by Ready at Dawn, the studio responsible for bringing us the excellent and viscerally satisfying God of War: Chains of Olympus. Furthermore, the developers promise an improved weapons system, fresh magic attacks, plus jaw-dropping visuals, which are expected to push Sony’s trusty slab to its limits.

More as we get it.
