PS5 Pro seems to finally be making good on a promise the original PS5 made. There was a lot of hullabaloo around the PS5 having “8K” on the side of the box, because firstly, it’s a feature barely anyone would actually use, because 8K TV’s are not exactly affordable or popular.
Secondly, games don’t just run at 8K because a console pushes it to, they need to be optimized and designed to do so. In the four years since PS5 released, while 8K TV’s are about as popular and affordable as they were before, it at least looks like this time around there are games to showcase the crazy high resolution.
Gran Turismo 7 being the one picked out by PlayStation to showcase it. In a hands-on preview with the new PS5 Pro from CNET that went live shortly after Mark Cerny’s presentation, the preview kicks off by describing that it is an “immersive experience” to be playing GT7 in 8K on a massive TV.
Even if 8K won’t be a huge selling factor for the PS5 Pro, seeing as how most homes still don’t have 8K TV’s (many homes don’t yet have 4K TV’s), at least Sony seems to finally be making good on that 8K promise.
