Gran Turismo Sport 4K footage shows checkerboarding to 1800p and low 50’s framerate

Players are currently revving their engines in the Gran Turismo Sport beta, and some new footage showcases Polyphony Digital’s racing game in glorious non-native 4K with 1800p checkerboarding.

The following Gran Turismo Sport video was taken by Digital Foundry which shows that the developer is checkerboarding up to 1800p rather than providing native 4K. Does that make much a difference? Digital Foundry doesn’t think so, though do mention in the video that framerate occasional drops to “mid to low 50’s” when all cars are in view. Polyphony has previously said that it’s "aiming for 60fps."

“From a regular viewing distance you might notice that it’s softer than native 4K, but it’s still a sharp image and it doesn’t look blurry,” says the commentator.

We’re still waiting to hear about a Gran Turismo Sport release date, but we’re expecting an announcement very soon.
