Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has warned that Grand Theft Auto VI‘s newly-announced May 2026 release date may see a delay noting nothing is guaranteed at this point.
Speaking in an article posted to Bloomberg ahead of the weekend, Schreier noted that he has bene told by developers working on titles that are schedule for Fall 2026 are “praying” that Rockstar doesn’t postpone GTA VI’s release date a second time. On the flip side, some are hoping it is pushed back, so the can delay their games to 2027.

He pointed out that “there’s no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing” in regards to GTA VI, which was originally set to arrive in Fall 2025.
It’s a massive game of 4D chess playing out across the entire video-game industry, as business analysts at every major company try to discern whether Rockstar will actually finish the game in time for a May 2026 release date so they can plan accordingly.
GTA VI is now pencilled in for a May 26, 2026 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games recently introduced a new trailer for the game that looks at Jason Duval, one of the game’s protagonist, as well as detailing a number of key characters in the game including Cal and Boobie. If that wasn’t enough, Rockstar also dropped off a fresh batch of screenshots for you to feast your eyes on.
The new GTA VI has been a huge success, attracting 475 million views across all available platforms during its first 24 hours. Rockstar later confirmed that the trailer was all captured ‘entirely in-game‘ on a PS5.
