GTA V features micro-transactions via DLC from Ammu-nation

Love them or hate them, it appears that micro-transactions will make their way into Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V.

Head into an Ammu-nation store in Los Santos to buy a weapon and you’ll see the option to access the PlayStation Store. During our playthrough, the PlayStation Store wasn’t accessible so we can’t see exactly what we’ll be able to purchase, but the fact that we were specifically browsing through weapons probably means that we’ll be able to purchase extra artillery and/or upgrades via the Store.

Of course, micro-transactions are optional and there’s enough lower tier weapons at decent prices to ensure that you don’t really ever have to buy extra stuff unless you really want to. Nevertheless, this is likely to be an unpopular move from Rockstar among its fans.

It’s going to be interesting to see whether micro-transactions will extend to other items too, such as property. In GTA V you can purchase businesses and houses with your hard-earned in-game cash, but wouldn’t it be tempting to just pick up that $5 million mansion from the outset with real cash without doing the hard work?
