The previous record holder, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, generated about $500 million in its first day of release. It took 15 days for Black Ops II to reach $1 billion–GTA V has a massive headstart, and may hit $1 billion by week’s end.
Remember the days when Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV made headlines with $180 and $310 million day-one takes? Times have changed, games are bigger business than ever, and it’s safe to say you’re going to be hearing about GTA V for a long, long time.
