Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is making a few changes to origins of the team established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the studio gave developer Eidos Montreal “carte blanche” for its adaptation of the popular franchise.
Jean-Francois Dugas, Eidos Montreal’s Senior Creative Director, revealed that Peter Quill has seen some changes to his backstory. While he was still kidnapped from Earth as a youngster, his Star-Lord moniker was taken from the name off is favourite band, rather than just coming up with it seemingly at random in the MCU.
There’s more changes to the wider universe too, as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows a massive intergalactic war featuring the Chitauri, about 12 years before the game takes place. This war saw Drax the Destroy vanquish The Mad Titan, Thanos, while Gamora defected from Thanos’ side to help end the conflict.
