At the time of writing, Gran Turismo is the platform’s best-selling release. When the game was released in 1997, its traditional arcade racing formula made it an instant hit with gamers. Featuring high-powered vehicles and exhilarating racing action, the product became known for providing an authentic racing experience, all while players worked their way up the rankings. It eventually managed to achieve sales of 10.85 million, getting the franchise off to a fantastic start in the process.
Tekken 3 is a fighting favorite.
The various Tekken games have generally delivered, although none come close to Tekken 3 in terms of numbers. Released in 1997, the game sold 8.3 million units, and its tournament aspect and superb combat mechanics made it particularly special.

Other game versions also achieved plenty of success, including Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, which sold 7.58 million copies. Tomb Raider II helped the franchise reach even more gamers.
The Tomb Raider franchise is iconic and will never be forgotten by millions of die-hard gamers. However, it wasn’t always the case. Until the second instalment of the game came out, the franchise arguably hadn’t reached its full potential yet. Step forward, Tomb Raider II. This top-notch title took place at the Great Wall of China and the open waters of Venice, amongst a few other locations, with this 1997 title receiving rave reviews. All this and more contributed to sales of 6.8 million at the time, making it one of the most successful releases ever. The first game also deserves a mention, selling 7.1 million copies, although many people prefer the second game.
