Help choose PSU’s new review scoring system with these great alternatives

Hello readers!

Here at PSU there has been much brow-furrowing, wailing and screaming concerning the ‘archaic’ ten point scoring system ever since a fellow video game news site dropped numbers at the end of reviews and put a word there instead. Some of us are crusty old folk that don’t like change and still think Streets of Rage II is the pinnacle of gaming (because it is), while others feel we should grow soul patches, put on a beret and join this review score revolution by ditching numbers. As a compromise, we decided to come up with some alternatives to the ‘Out of Ten’ system and let you choose our funky new scoring system from the selection below.

System 1: The Rate Games With Games System

How It Works: Simple really, by compiling an average of twenty five of the worst, best, average and alright games of all time we can review any future games in accordance with those games. For instance. I reviewed Escape Dead Island last year and gave it 2.5/10. Under the new system it would get an Altered Beast Award out of Games.

Pros: We would be comparing new games with old games and everybody is familiar with that.

Cons: It creates twice the trouble.

System 2: The Overrated, Rated, Underrated Scoring System

How It Works: Taking inspiration from every internet gaming comments section in existence, we will simply judge games based on how popular they are. GTA? CoD? FIFA? Sold loads so waaaay Overrated fella.

Pros: No favouritism for big name franchises.

Cons: Eventually, everything would be Overrated.

System 3: The ‘’Does It Work?’’ System

How It Works: A useful system because so many games are broken messes these days. Or at least perceived to be. We will simply ask the question; ‘’Does It Work?’’

Pros: You don’t rush to buy a game until it gets the ‘’It Works!’’ award, developers see the error of their ways and every game going forward is immaculate.

Cons: Doesn’t tell you if a game is duller than a young-adult novel. Ubisoft may probably still fail to grasp the concept of ‘’Working’’.

System 4: The Pie Award System

How It Works: Games are reviewed based on pies. A current 8/10 game would get the Steak and Ale Pie Award.

Pros: Mmmm. Pies.
Cons: Not enough bad pie fillings to even out the scale.

System 5: The Reviewer’s Face System

How It Works: You get one of three pictures of the reviewer’s face that will be contorted into their overall feeling about the game. As you can see below.

Pros: We can do away with words and just do pictures, big boost in hits from the casual market and rich infants.

Cons: You have to see a reviewer’s face and that could be scary enough to put you off a game.

Phew. A tough choice isn’t it? I don’t want to sway your vote, but that Pie Award System is a clear winner don’t you think? Let us know below and help shape the future of games journalism.
