It was announced earlier this week that Bayonetta 2, the long-awaited sequel, is releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U, and Tatsuya Minami, studio head at Platinum Games, came out today and said why.
It’s strange to see a multiplatform game become exclusive, but Nintedo seemed to win over a title which once graced both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and here’s what Minami said in regards to the change:
“Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.”
Something must have swayed the opinions withing Platinum Games, but it’s seems risky to try re-establishing a title on a brand new console. Surely, Bayonetta 2 would yield more revenuw across all platforms, but all we can do is speculate at this point. Let us know if the loss of Bayonetta to the PlayStation brand is a bitter feeling or no big deal.
