Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya has revealed in a new post on his YouTube channel that he’d like to have a stab at remaking Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe using modern technology.
Kamiya-san was answering questions from fans, among which included one user who asked if he had any ideas for how to improve Devil May Cry for a potential remake. His response can be seen below, where he also gives Viewtiful Joe a mention.
With today’s technology and game design approach, of course I’d want to remake it from the ground up, if that ever happens. Well, I don’t think seriously unless it’s really happening, so right now, I don’t have anything in mind. But if the time comes, I’ll come up with something. That’s what I’d do. So, Capcom — Please leave it to me. Also, let me handle Viewtiful Joe too. Let’s do Viewtiful Joe!

This isn’t the first time that Kamiya has touched on a possible Devil May Cry remake. Back in March 2018, the ex-Platinum Games developer posted on Twitter that if he were to remake the game, his former studio at the time was “confident about making it the most amazing hack & slash ever.”
Kamiya is currently working at Clovers, a new studio that’s busy working on a full sequel to 2006’s critically acclaimed Okami. The original Devil May Cry was released in August 2001 in Japan and directed by Kamiya, and started out life as Resident Evil 4, which featured a story involving the sons of Lord Spencer, founder of the Umbrella Corporation. It was later repurposed into a brand new IP, which has since spawned a successful franchise of its own.
