Devil May Cry Remake Teased By Hideki Kamiya?

Platinum Games’ Game Design guru Hideki Kamiya really does like to tease fans of his previous work.

Kamiya has worked on stellar titles such as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Bayonetta, and holds a clear fondness for the work he’s done.

The Devil May Cry HD Collection arrived on PS4 yesterday, and sadly it’s a lazy port of a middling remaster. It’s certainly not the way we should be seeing Devil May Cry right now.

I’d hazard a guess Kamiya might feel the same way, as he tweeted this out recently. Suggesting a potential Devil May Cry Remake.

It’s highly possible that it’s just Hideki Kamiya teasing Capcom (and fans), but it isn’t the first time he’s weighed in on the future of Devil May Cry.

A couple of years ago, Kamiya polled fans on what they’d like to see next out of Okami, Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe. He also recently remarked that the series could do with a God of War style reboot, but later dismissed it as having any significance.

Currently Kamiya and Platinum Games are working on the Nintendo Switch exclusive Bayonetta 3, and Capcom are heavily rumoured to be working on Devil May Cry 5, a full sequel featuring Dante, Vergil, Nero, and Trish.

So is this a hint at a future project? Or is Kamiya merely asking for a shot at it? Capcom are pretty happy to use re-releases and remakes as foundations for their gaming business strategy right now, and if Devil May Cry 5 is set to go in a new direction (again), then a smart crowd-pleasing strategy is to have some of the old guard remake the classic Devil May Cry style. That’s effectively what happened with Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake, though you’d hope we’d move along a bit quicker than that particular project has.
