Hideki Kamiya Keen On Sequels For Okami, Viewtiful Joe: ‘Creators Have A Duty To Create Sequels Fans Are Wanting To See’

Resident Evil 2 director and all-around former Capcom legend, Hideki Kamiya, has revealed he’s still hoping to one day get a sequel to Okami out the door, along with cult classic Viewtiful Joe.

Speaking in a new video with Ikumi Nakamura, the outspoken game developer made it clear he wants to jump back into the world of Okami despite having been away from the franchise for over 15 years.

Creators have the duty to create sequels fans are wanting to see. Although I sound all high and mighty, it’s been a while since I’ve moved on from Okami. But I still feel like I haven’t fulfilled my duty. So Capcom-san, please, let’s do it together. Same sentiments for Viewtiful Joe 3. I’d be more than happy.

Kamiya acknowledged that he’s obviously not involved in Capcom nowadays and understood why, from a business perspective, that Capcom hans’t revisited Okami and Viewtiful Joe for modern platforms.

It’s only because eight people have played Viewtiful Joe that people aren’t going wild. That game also ended mid-way. So I need to finish it.

Kamiya departed Platinum Games last year and in December revealed that he was currently unemployed and set up a YouTube channel to get his thoughts and feelings across to fans. At the time, he said that he left Platinum “after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs.”
