Hideo Kojima Says Upcoming Horror Project OD Is Very Unique, Has Packed Its Teaser Trailer Full Of Hints

Speaking during an interview with Ananweb, Hideo Kojima has touched base on the next couple of project he’s working on — OD and Physint — following the Beyond the Strand event that marked the 10th anniversary of his independent studio, Kojima Productions.

Regarding OD, the Metal Gear creator revealed that the horror anthology project is set to be something quite unique, and that its ‘Knock’ Teaser Trailer is packed full of hints for players to unearth.

I can’t say exactly what it is yet, nor do I know if it will work out. We’ve created stealth games and delivery games which were unlike anything before, but system-wise, they were similar to other games. This time, we’re trying to change the service model from the ground up, so it should be quite challenging. We’ve packed the trailer full of hints, so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure it out.

Moving on to Physint, he joked that he could probably make the game in his sleep as it’s a genre he’s well experience in, namely stealth. However, he also said that as it’s easy to make, the team are “trying to fight against” that familiarity, and confirmed the project will “introduce new gimmicks.”

As for Physint, because it’s an espionage game, I could practically make it in my sleep. For example – you have a soldier who infiltrates, gets stopped by the enemy, gets attacked, and sneaks around to take them out one by one. No matter how that plays out, it’s fun and easy to make.

But that’s also what we’re trying to fight against. This new game introduces new gimmicks, and we’re also taking on the challenge of crossing the line between film and games. I’m thinking of working not just with film actors but with film staff on the production side too, though I wonder how that will all turn out.

Right now the times are changing so quickly that the social structures and themes I’m trying to depict in the game might end up appearing in the real world before the game is finished.

While we’re on the subject of OD, Kojima-san recently paid tribute to actor Udo Kier, who passed away aged 81 recently and was set to appear in the game. As for Physint, Kojima revealed back in August that the game is still in the conceptual stage, so it’s still a long way off at this point.

Kojima’s most recent project was Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which launched for the PS5 back in June 2025.
