OD, the upcoming horror title from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, is going to be spared Microsoft’s planned business ‘reset,’ according to a report on IGN.
Citing a source familiar with the Xbox maker’s plans, OD is still in development at Kojima Productions and will be published by Xbox amidst widespread reports of Microsoft’s plans to shutter various studios, with the likes of Arkane Studios, Compulsion Games, Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Undead Labs at risk of closing down.
The report also follows confirmation that Xbox cut ties with Project Fantasy, the upcoming online RPG from IO Interactive, with the 007 First Light developer now at risk of layoffs as a result.
Little details have been revealed about OD by Kojima-san, but it was previously planned to feature Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier — the latter sadly passed away in November last year before shooting began. Kojima previously said the following to Entertainment Weekly:
I wanted to do something new. I wanted to do something different. I had this OD concept since I was working on DS1 [Death Stranding] and I was working on it just by myself. I can’t reveal much detail, but it’s something that no one has ever seen before. A new game system. I pitched to many people, to the big companies, and also to the up-and-coming companies. All of them said the same thing. They said that I’m crazy, and that they really don’t understand the concept — that they will not be able to do it.
OD has yet to attract a release date.
