Highguard Microtransactions Are Reportedly Being Automatically Refunded By Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly automatically refunding micro transactions for Highguard, after the game was pulled offline for good by earlier this month.

BlueSky user Kahsmoe revealed that Sony refunded their currency purchased in Highguard without them actually requesting it, and other users have also reported that their purchases in Highguard have been refunded.

Developed by Widlight Entertainment, Highguard was announced at the climax of December 2025’s The Game Awards, but upon its launch in late January, faced an uphill battle. While it did debut to fairly strong numbers, the play base quickly dwindled and it wasn’t long before Wildlight confirmed that it had laid off a number of staff, although at the time said that a core team would remain in place to support Highguard.

In late February, it was reported that Tencent, who was revealed as the financial backer behind the project, had pulled its funding and Wildlight had fewer than 20 people working on the project. At this point the writing was on the wall, and sure enough, on March 4, it was confirmed that Highguard was shutting its doors for good on March 12.
