Hitman for PS4 won’t require a permanent online connection

Square Enix has clarified that the full version of the upcoming stealth-based shooter, Hitman, won’t require a permanent Internet connection for PlayStation 4 users.

Speaking to VideoGamer, the publishing giant however was keen to point out that the impending beta will require a constant online connection in order to play.

"Yes you can play the full game offline after you have downloaded an episode," a company representative said, "but there are live elements which you will need to access online."

The ‘live elements’ that Square Enix refers to comes in the shape of the various free goodies that will be rolled out on a weekly/monthly basis, and includes extra Contracts plus new weapons and outfits for Agent 47.

The beta will go live for PS4 owners on Friday, February 12, and will allow gamers to tackle the game’s Prologue mission. Access to the beta will be given away to those who pre-order Hitman digitally via the PlayStation Store or the Collector’s Edition of the game via Square Enix’s official store.

Hitman is due out on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on March 11, and will be an episodic-based affair. However, each Contract will offer gamers sandbox-like environment to explore populated by up to 300 NPCs, as gamers plan out and execute assassinations as Agent 47. Areas are also considerably larger than those found in Hitman: Absolution, and players can now save their game at any point they wish .

PS4 gamers will also be gaining exclusive Contracts for Hitman in the shape of the Sarajeva Six, and there will be two versions of the title to choose from: an Intro Pack, which includes the Prologue and Paris missions only, and a full version of the game that will roll out new missions for free.
