Wizarding World RPG Hogwarts Legacy has been named the best-selling game of 2023 worldwide, surpassing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the process.
Nintendo revealed during its financial results overnight that the latest Zelda game sold 20.28 million copies during its first year, where Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed that Hogwarts Legacy topped 22 million. It was a close call — and impressive on Zelda’s part considering it’s a single-format release — but the fantasy-RPG came out on top.
David Haddad, the President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, revealed that the above figure cements Hogwarts Legacy as “the best-selling game of the year in the entire industry worldwide.” It’s still worth noting that Hogwarts Legacy was released in February 2023 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrived in May.

Hogwarts Legacy initially debuted for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions arriving in May and a Nintendo Switch version following up in November. You can read our review of the game here.
