Team Cherry has announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong is receiving a free expansion, Sea of Sorrow, in 2026, while confirming that the game has sold seven million units worldwide.
New areas, bosses, tools, and more Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong ‘Sea of Sorrow’ releases.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was released in September 2025 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The game had built up so much anticipation among fans that, come launch day, that it caused multiple storefronts to crash as people flocked to grab their digital copies.
The game was originally conceived as DLC for the original Hollow Knight, but the project grew in scope and was instead made into a full-fledged sequel featuring more than 165 new enemies and more than 100 different checkpoints.
