The Guerrilla Games-developed Horizon franchise has now sold over 40 million units worldwide, according to a Korean news article translated on ResetEra.
The figure was mentioned during a description of the upcoming MMORPG Horizon Steel Frontiers, which is currently in developmental NCSoft. The game caused a bit of a stir among PS5 owners as it is seemingly skipping Sony’s flagship home console in favour of PC and mobile, although its creator has said it absolutely wants to get the game on PS5.
It is an MMORPG currently in development, based on the ‘Horizon’ series of open-world action adventure games with cumulative global sales reaching 40m units, designed to be playable on mobile devices. This new title was described by Co-CEO Park Byung-moo during the Q3 earnings conference call as one that ‘earned a standing ovation’. It garnered significant attention as the main highlight of NCSoft’s opening speech on the 13th.

Assuming the figure is correct, then Horizon easily ranks among some of Sony’s most successful first-party franchises. Unsurprising it is, then, to note that Guerrilla Games is reportedly working on two major projects in the series: a Horizon multiplayer game (separate from NCSoft’s own offering) and Horizon 3, although the former is reportedly going to be the studio’s next big game.
Meanwhile, we also have the upcoming movie adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn from PlayStation Productions, which is set to stat timing next year with Sony hoping to have the movie out in 2027. The project originally started out life as a series on Netflix, but it was eventually decided Horizon would be better adapted as a film.
