John Gonzalez, the lead writer on Horizon Zero Dawn, has announced his departure from Guerrilla Games to join a development team in Spain, where he’s involved in the creation of a new AAA open world IP.

An entry on his LinkedIn profile confirms that Gonzalez began working at the new studio this month, and is listed as being based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. No platforms or even a title for the new project were revealed.
I’m off to the magical land of Gaudi and calcots to build an original open world IP with a new cadre of like-minded, crazy-ambitious devs. Details to follow.
It’s interesting to note that Gonzalez also worked on the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West as a narrative director between July 2016 – June 2020, where he ‘created the game’s story and major characters.’
Horizon Forbidden West is scheduled for release on PS5 in 2021.
