Insomniac looking at new IPs

Insomniac Games is one of the PlayStation brand’s most loyal developers, having created popular franchises such as Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet and Clank and more recently, Resistance: Fall of Man.

Despite the success of these franchises, the company has stated that it plans to continue developing new Intellectual Property (IP); a factor, which should ultimately aid in diversifying the company as the games industry continues to evolve.

While talking to MTV, Ted Price, the President of Insomniac revealed his take on the current situation and the initiative of newer IP’s in the future:

"We’ll continue to produce new IP, there’s no question about that”, said Price.

“One thing that has been nice for us is that instead of the one-year cycles that we had on PlayStation one, we now have two-year cycles, which gives us a chance to do really thorough pre-production and gives the team the chance to take a bit of a break — and gives consumers a break, too. We were experiencing consumer fatigue with Ratchet on the PlayStation 2,"

Insomniac is a major driver for innovation which can be seen in all titles they put out. Their most recent project, Resistance 2, is expected to push First Person Shooter (FPS) online multiplayer on consoles to new heights with the game’s robust 60 player online battle modes, which could set the standard for future FPS titles on consoles.

The company can draw from many genres, such as Role Playing Games (RPG) or even Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG) for future IP’s. Regardless of what they may pull out of their creative hats, you can bet it would be nothing short of yet another stellar entry in the PlayStation 3’s already expanding library of games.
