Insomniac Games has teased a brand new IP which is set to be revealed in full on January 28, 2016.
The following trailer suggests that the game could be some sort of exploration-based puzzle title.
The footage takes us under the sea where you’ll spot various structures and mechanisms, and ends with the words “Dive Deeper.”
The trailer does not include any reference to which platforms it might launch on, but there’s many a PlayStation fan hoping that Insomniac may be about to reveal its first all-new title for PS4.
PlayStation exclusive games
There once was a time when Ratchet & Clank and Resistance developer, Insomniac Games, worked solely on PlayStation exclusives.
In 1998, the Spyro The Dragon franchise became an instant hit on the original PlayStation, paving the way nicely for the introduction of the dynamic duo, Ratchet & Clank, which launched exclusively on PS2. Subsequent games in the series also bolted down securely to Sony’s popular console.
In 2006, Insomniac switched focus from its series of platforming titles with its first PlayStation shooter. Resistance: Fall of Man was closely followed by Resistance 2 and Resistance 3, and launched exclusively on PS3 before the studio branched out and released the forgettable co-op shooter FUSE for both PS3 and Xbox 360.
Insomniac returned briefly back to PlayStation, releasing the PS3 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, but since then hasn’t been tied exclusively to PlayStation. The studio’s last major title, Sunset Overdrive, released exclusively on Xbox One, while numerous mobile games, including Fruit Fusion and Bad Dinos, suggests that the studio has broadened its strategy and shifted its focus.
Nevertheless, PlayStation fans of Insomniac will be keen to see something new from the studio. Though the developer has recently been working on the PS4 remake of Ratchet & Clank, which launches in April, and the Oculus Rift exclusive Edge of Nowhere, there are high hopes that “Dive Deeper” could be its first new IP for PlayStation since 2013, and return back to its spiritual home.
We’ll find out for certain on January 28 at 8.30am CT when Insomniac plans to reveal its new project to the world.
