It looks like Skate 4 may be happening

It seems as though Electronic Arts might have finally caved to the incessant badgering by fans and be underway with work on Skate 4, that is, if a conspicuous Tweet is anything to go by.

Late last night, EA Senior Manager, Daniel Lingen, simply Tweeted the phrase ”#skate4” and in doing so unleashed a barrage of fervent support that saw the Tweet being ‘favourited’ over twenty thousand times. A testament to the staying power of a franchise that hasn’t seen a release in over half a decade.

Little else is known, or indeed even if development is actually underway, but we’d hedge bets and say that we’ll be hearing something perhaps at EA’s showing at this year’s E3 in June. Needless to say, the interest is certainly there for a sequel.

The Skate series itself is a curious case; the last entry, Skate 3, reviewed decently when it was released back in 2010 but it wasn’t until around 2013 that the game saw a massive resurgence as a result of Let’s Players creating content around it for their YouTube channels. Since then, virtually everything that EA posts on Instagram is greeted with comments crying out for a sequel.

And with the latest Tony Hawk game bailing and falling flat on its face, the gap in the market is there for Skate to roll right back in; it’s about time.
