The Super Mario Galaxy Movie star Jack Black has revealed during an interview with ScreenRant that he’d love to feature in a possible live-action Yakuza movie.
“So I’m going to throw my hat in that ring. I don’t know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle,” said Black. Black and his co-star Donald Glover were asked about what other universes they would like to explore, Glover responded: “My kids are really into Wings of Fire. Saga also. Have you ever read Saga?” Black, having not heard of Saga, added, “But don’t say Sega. Because we’ll get in trouble.”
Black is no stranger to appearing in video game movies, as in addition The Super Mario Bros. movie and the follow-up, he’s also appeared in the Minecraft movie and will also show up in the in-development sequel.
Yakuza has seen a live-action adaptation in the form of 2007’s Yakuza: Like A Dragon, which takes the plot of the original game and follows numerous storylines across a summer night in Kamurocho. The film stars Kazuki Kitamura as Kazuma Kiryu, Goro Kishitani as Goro Majima, and Yutaka Matsushige as Makoto Date. Amazon Prime also produced a live-action series, Like A Dragon: Yakuza, which loosely follows the original game and its remake.
