Call of Duty Modern Warfare II Dead Space News PlayStation PS5 PS5 Console Sales Sony

January Was The PS5’s Month: Sales Were Up “202%” In European Markets, While It Also Led Console Sales In The US

Across the globe, January was an absolute stellar month for the PS5. Since Jim Ryan had boldly stated PS5 stock issues would begin to be a thing of the past, the sales numbers for January are so far backing that up.

GameIndustry.Biz’s Chris Dring reports that console sales were up “202%” in comparison to January 2022, while in the US the NDP reports that the PS5 led console sales both when it comes to dollar amount and units sold.

On the software side of things, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II was again the highest selling game of the month, though EA Motive’s remake of Dead Space does at least give it a bit of a challenge, coming in at number 2 even though it released right at the end of the month.

A winning month for PlayStation that comes while in other areas of its business, namely HBO’s The Last Of Us is also making headlines with each new episode, and bringing millions of new potential players into the PlayStation fold.

It’ll be interesting to see if this strong start to 2023 can continue, particularly past the final episode of HBO’s The Last Of Us’ first season.

Furthermore it’ll be intriguing to see how release of the PlayStation VR2 effects console sales.

The sales numbers to come over the next few months will also really begin to show us if the shortage issues that have constrained the console since its launch really are a thing of the past.
