Justin Lin, the director of the upcoming Helldivers movie, has revealed during CinemaCon that the film will go into pre-production within the next two weeks.
Not much is known about the Helldivers movie at present other than it will feature Aqua Man star Jason Momoa, and is targeting a November 2027 release in cinemas. Momoa is of course no stranger to appearing in video game movie adaptations, having featured in both Minecraft and the upcoming Street Fighter reboot.
The Helldivers movie is based on the hugely popular video game series developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, and will be produced by Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash, and Lin of Perfect Storm Entertainment, who is probably best known for his work on the Fast and the Furious franchise.
Helldivers 2 was released for the PC and PS5 in February 2024, and takes place during the 22nd century, 100 years after the Federation of Super Earth achieved victory over the Bugs, Cyborgs, and Illuminate during the events of the First Galactic War. The game sees players taking part in operations featuring one — three procedurally generated levels, taking objectives while battling off hordes of foes.
