BioShock father Ken Levine has said that the forthcoming PlayStation Vita entry in the critically lauded franchise will be ‘a little different’ to what players have come to expect.
Speaking to the chaps at Joystiq, Levine expressed his desire to take a more experimental approach with the game, and produce something that is “unique” to the series. He did, however, add that the title is still in its infancy in terms of development.
"We’re still sort of in the paper design stage," he revealed, before reiterating that the game wouldn’t be a port of any existing titles, or next year’s BioShock: Infinite.
"That’s not the current goal for what we’re doing. I think for us, the idea we have is a really good expression on a platform like that. It’s a different goal. And it has to sort of have its own voice in the franchise. If it just feels like a quieter voice in the franchise, I don’t think that works."
"I’d rather do something that’s an experiment and that’s a little different. And is unique for the franchise,” added Levine.
Elsewhere, he revealed that there is a possibility the handheld title may be outsourced to an external studio.
"Potentially, potentially," said Levine, before adding he had already conversed with some "extraordinary people" in regards to maybe taking on board some extra muscle, though wouldn’t be drawn into naming any potential developers.
"To keep quality level… I wish I could say it was easy… it just tends to be more time consuming," he explained. "It’s just hard to find the right partners or the right people to hire."
BioShock Vita has yet to attract a release date, while BioShock: Infinite is currently pencilled in for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.
