Killzone dev says it’s ‘too early’ to discuss the series’ future

Guerrilla Games has said that while the studio hasn’t lost its enthusiasm for the Killzone series, it’s still too early to discuss any future projects in the long-running science-fiction shooter franchise.

Speaking with GamesRadar, Managing Director Hermen Hulst downplayed the suggestion that the studio is no longer interesting in Killzone after its decision to develop its new IP, Horizon: Zero Dawn.

My enthusiasm for Horizon by no means should suggest that I’m now uninterested in Killzone,” Hulst said. “We love that franchise, we really do. But it’s too early for me to comment on future projects. It’s going to be a very big challenge for us to get [Horizon] out the door. And as for what’s going to happen after that? We’ll talk about that later.”

He also spoke a little on Horizon’s development:

After we shipped Killzone: Shadow Fall, and we’d been through the hoopla of doing a launch title, I thought that was going to be the toughest thing we’d ever do,” said Hulst. “It pales in comparison to this. This is so much more challenging on the team in every single way. But I find that doing something that is this refreshing, and that is supported so strongly by the development team, is probably even more important to the success of a title than how far you are out of your comfort zone. I feel a sense of love for this project among the team, and maybe that sounds corny, but it’s really empowering.”

Horizon: Zero Dawn is due out on PS4 in 2016. Recently, Guerrilla Games said that it wasn’t aiming to reveal a huge amount of details on the game prior to launch. Read our E3 2015 impressions here.
