The reality of current video streaming standards–even for platforms as popular and ubiquitous as YouTube–is that compression means you’re never getting the "real deal" next-gen experience when watching gameplay and trailers of PS4 games like Killzone: Shadow Fall.
So Guerrilla Games put out a 500 MB video and laughed at YouTube’s limitations.
At least, that’s how I like to imagine the Killzone: Shadow Fall dev team celebrated uploading this amazing video of multiplayer gameplay from its PS4 launch title. You can’t find this on any video streaming service (well, someone probably put it up after release), but you’re not meant to. As technical director Michiel van der Leeuw notes on the PlayStation Blog, this is "high-resolution, uncompressed footage" that allows the team to "properly demonstrate the framerate and resolution" that will wow us come November 15.
And ho-lee crap, does it wow. Have a look for yourself by clicking here to download the video and viewing it with software that has hardware acceleration, like Windows Media Player or QuickTime Player.
Then, give us your take in the comments section. Is this the visual fidelity you expect from next-gen? Are you astonished that Killzone: Shadow Fall is running at 60 frames per second?
