There is a good chance Kingdom Hearts 3 will feature an online component of some sort, according to series director Tetsuya Nomura.
He told Engadget that he wants people to stay with the game for longer and ”an online component certainly helps this.” He was quick to assure fans that the single player aspect of the title would remain the key(blade) focus in development, but that the online features would not feel tacked on.
”While we may be focusing on the main campaign at the moment, but it’s not as if we’re going to tack on an online component at the end,” he said in the interview before continuing on the subject. ”In fact we’ve got plenty of ideas brewing at the moment. However we’re still not at the point where we can test these ideas inside the main game.”
Kingdom Hearts is expected to release in 2016 and a gameplay demo at E3 showed off protagonist Sora’s new moves against a backdrop of Disney’s Tangled. You can see the demo in the trailer below.
