Hideo Kojima has just celebrated the 10th anniversary of Kojima Productions, and has looked to 2026 as another major milestone in the company’s history as it shifts focus from Death Stranding 2: On the Beach to its next major projects — OD and Physint.
Speaking on Twitter, the Metal Gear Solid director revealed that this year will be about ‘laying solid foundations’ and moving forward with Kojima Productions’ second phase before leading into its third phase. This is in strike contrast to last year, where Kojima spent a lot of time travelling to promote Death Stranding 2.
In 2026, we will move forward with the ‘Second Phase’ that leads into Kojima Productions’ ‘Third Phase.’ Unlike last year, like I was traveling all over the world, this year will be about staying grounded and laying solid foundations.
“We will continue development on the horror game ‘OD’ and move forward with preparations for the espionage action title ‘Physint,’” he added, which “includes casting actors, scanning, and performance capture shoots.”
Back in May last year, Kojima stated that development of Physint will take another five or six years, and in August revealed that the project was still in the conceptual phase. The game was originally announced back in January 2024 as a collaboration between Kojima Productions and Sony, and is billed as an espionage action game along the lines of Metal Gear.
OD meanwhile is a horror title that is set to feature Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and a posthumous appearance from Udo Kier, who passed away late last year. The game is a partnership between Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, and is set to “explore the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear.”
