Larian Studios Boss Admits He Was Worried Baldur’s Gate 3 Would Be Too Short Due To Cut Content

Baldur’s Gate 3 director and Larian Studios boss, Swen Vincke, has admitted he was concerned the critically acclaimed fantasy-RPG would be too short due to the amount of content that was cut from the final game.

Speaking during an interview with BAFTA, Vincke revealed that Baldur’s Gate III was originally going to be even bigger than it is now, but plans were ultimately scaled down.

This is a really random tidbit, but Moonrise Towers used to be two towers. And now, we shipped with only one tower. And for a long time, there was actually the ruins of the second tower, and then we removed that also.

So there was only one tower, but originally we planned on having two towers. The reason we removed the extra tower was purely productionally. It was just, the game was getting too big and so we had to cut that out.

You would be surprised to know that we actually had many more regions that we planned to make. I was afraid the game was going to be too short originally, but I’ve notoriously always been very bad at judging the length of our games.

Baldur’s Gate III was released for the PS5 in September 2024, and despite its huge success, Larian Studios has confirmed it will be moving on from the Dungeons and Dragons IP for its next project. Having said that, the studio confirmed that Baldur’s Gate III Update 7 will not be the final patch for the title.
