Speaking during an interview with GamesRadar+, Swen Vincke, founder and CEO of Larian Studios, has revealed that he’s keen for more video game developers to jump into the CRPG sub-genre following the success of Baldur’s Gate III.
Vincke was speaking during the Golden Joystick Awards, during which Larian’s Baldur’s Gate III picked up the gong for Ultimate Game of the Year.
We’ve always been very focused on just making our game, and a lot of people have attached a lot of things to that because the game turned out the way that we wanted it to be. So I hope there will be more games like a CRPG type of game. It’s a game I like to play, and a lot of people in the industry like to play as well. So, If those games come out, and they don’t have a story that we know already, I think that will be great. I look forward to those types of games.
Baldur’s Gate III was released for the PC in August 2023 followed by a PS5 release the following month. You can read our full review here. Despite the success of the game, Larian Studios revealed back in October that it is currently not working on an expansion for the game.
