Thanks to the guys at Multiplayer.it, footage from the DICE GDC 11 press conference has trickled onto the net, showcasing new gameplay from Battlefield 3’s single player campaign as well as tech demos revealing some of the new engine enhancements in destructibility and particle lighting.
DICE insists that Battlefield 3 will be a “next-gen game for current-gen systems.”
"You shouldn’t have to wait for the Xbox 720 or PlayStation 4," said Patrick Bach, Battlefield 3’s executive producer. "We have to deliver this to you now, and we wanted to do it on all the platforms."
It will be interesting to see if DICE has any plans to license the Frostbite Engine 2.0 or if they will keep the technology in-house. As one of the few platform engines to develop titles for "next generation" consoles, Frostbite 2.0 Engine may very well turn heads for independent licenses and mod communities.
