Square Enix has trademarked Live A Live in Australia, suggesting the company is looking to revive the 26-year-old franchise for modern platforms. For those out of the loop, Live A Live came out in Japan for the Super Nintendo (aka Super Famicom) back in September 1994.
Live A Live Trademark Registered
Live A Live was not released outside of Japan, although you can play it in English thanks to a fan translation. Nonetheless, the trademark application is the first official rumblings the series has witnessed in over two decades, not counting re-releases for the Wii U and 3DS virtual consoles.
The game is noted for being the directorial debut for Takashi Tokita, who went on to helm Chrono Trigger.
Developed by Square, Live A Live takes the form of an RPG that follows seven scenarios set across different time periods, combining exploration and turn-based grid combat. The game features a soundtrack composed by Yoko Shimomura, which marked her first large-scale project since joining Square.
