Marathon Update From Sony Reveals It Is ‘Full Dedicated To Launching The Title As Scheduled’

Sony’s chief financial officer has issued a brief update on Marathon during its Q2 FY25 earrings call, revealing the format holder is still “fully dedicated” to launching Bungie‘s title by March 2026 as originally planned.

Asked about the development status of Marathon during a Q&A, Lin Tao revealed that October 22 — October 28 saw Bungie undertake a major technical test for Marathon, which involved about 80,000 players. Tao-san added that Sony is “fully dedicated to launching the title as scheduled,” and that Sony “assume[s] that [it] will launch within the year.” This presumably refers to Sony’s financial year rather than calendar year, as the FY ends in March 2026 — the same window that Marathon is set to arrive.

With regards to the development of Marathon, we are still working on it. From October 22nd and then 28th for a week, there is a technical test that involves 80,000 people. As a result, the gameplay and then retention, those are the key KPIs that we tested on.

And then we are in the process of analyzing the performance against those KPIs, and as needed, we will make corrections, and we are fully dedicated to launching the title as scheduled. And yes, we assume that we will launch this within the year, and that is included in the forecast.

Marathon is currently in development for PS5 and PC.
