Marvel Rivals is one of the many upcoming Overwatch-like games, with it’s big advantage over the rest being the Marvel IP and characters running through the fabric of the whole thing.
Early impressions from those who’ve gotten the chance to play it seem strong, though we really won’t know the full scale of its potential until it properly releases. Until then, there’s a Closed Beta coming up that’ll let you get your hands on it early.
Developer NetEase Games revealed on Wednesday that the previously announced closed beta will kick off on July 23, 2024 and run until August 5, 2024.
In a tweet from the game’s official Twitter account, NetEase tells players to “Get ready to battle across the Marvel Multiverse on console and PC! Assemble your team and prepare to unleash your inner hero!” before sharing a link to where players can register for the beta.
Marvel Rivals may be another Overwatch-clone looking to eat Overwatch’s lunch, but it’s also another attempt at making a live-service Marvel game.
The last time that was attempted, even the strength of the Marvel IP couldn’t stop it from tanking. Though at least unlike Marvel’s Avengers, Rivals isn’t trying to be both a live service game and a strong single-player adventure within the Marvel universe.
For its sake, that focus might just be the thing that helps it find a strong community of players.
