Awards season, for both Hollywood and the games industry continues, this time with the nominees announced for the 2024 Game Developer Choice Awards (GDCA), where Insomniac’s own Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 picked up four nominations.
One of those nominations was Game Of The Year, alongside nominations for Best Audio, Best Technology, and Best Narrative.
It was also the only PlayStation Studios game to get any nominations, though Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores did get three “Honorable Mentions.”
Unlike other awards shows for 2023’s myriad of excellent games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is not leading the nominations count for the GDCA’s.
That honour goes to both Baldur’s Gate III and The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom who each have seven nominations. After that it’s Cocoon with five nominations, before getting to Spider-Man 2’s four.
All three of the previously mentioned games are also nominated for Game Of The Year.
Similar to the DICE Awards, the nominees and winners are chosen by other game developers. In the case of the GDCA’s, they are selected by an invitation-only organization, “composed of leading game creators from all parts of the industry,” the International Choice Awards Network (ICAN).
Winners will be revealed this coming Wednesday, March 20, 2024, following the broadcasting of the Independent Games Festival Awards (IGFA).
