Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Sales Receive Huge Spike Following Release Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has resulted in a massive spike in sales for Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, according to data from Alinea.

As noted by analyst Rhys Elliot, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold an estimated 316,000 since Brand New Days Hit cinemas in late July, pulling in around $11 million across PS5 and PC in under two weeks. Furthermore, about 20% of copies sold on PS5 during this window were physical, with PS Plus accounting for 274,000 players experiencing the web-slinging sequel for the first time.

Elliot added that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold 18.2 million copies to date, 92% of which were on PS5 and pulled in over $1.2 billion since its launch nearly three years ago. In addition, Insomniac Games’ title topped one million daily active users for the first time since launch week this past weekend.

On PS5, Spider-Man 2 had the same $29.39 sale price during a February promotion and during this film window. The Feb sale moved ~6.3K copies a day, but the new film window is moving ~15K a day at that identical price – 2.4x on average and peaking at 4.5x on the biggest day.Steam is similar. At a flat $40.19, the film is selling 2.3x what the same $40.19 discount did back in June. This is one of the clearest transmedia halo effects we’ve ever measured. And it’s still an untapped opportunity.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released in October 2023 for PS5 and later launched for the PC. To celebrate the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas, Insomniac Games released a free update for the game that added the Fresh Start Suit.
